A selfie frame has one job: get your hashtag into other people's photos. Weddings, school formals, corporate events, brand activations, fundraisers — the frame is the cheapest piece of signage at the event and usually the only one that leaves with the guests.

Handheld or full-body?

Handheld frames are the ones people pick up, hold at arm's length and shoot with. They suit crowds, roving photographers and anywhere floor space is tight. Full-body frames stand on the ground and fit two or three people at once, which is what you want for a posed shot at an entrance or a step-and-repeat area.

Worth knowing before you size one: almost everyone shoots vertically for social. A frame that is wider than it is tall will be cropped on every platform it lands on, so if the photo is destined for Instagram or TikTok, a portrait or square aperture survives better than a landscape one.

Getting the hashtag right

The most common mistake is treating the frame as a poster. It is not read at leisure — it is read at a glance, in a photo, at a distance, often at a slight angle.

• Keep the hashtag off the edges. Anything within about 40mm of the aperture risks being cropped or covered by fingers.
• One short hashtag beats three long ones. If it cannot be read at arm's length, it will not be typed.
• Mind the contrast. Pale type on a pale frame vanishes against skin tones and bright venue lighting.
• Put the logo on the opposite side to the hashtag so a hand covering one corner does not take out both.

Which material?

Corrugated plastic is the standard choice — light enough to hold up for a long photo queue, stiff enough not to bend, and cheap enough to treat as single-event. For something reused across a season of events, foam board is heavier and holds a cleaner edge indoors.

Single or double sided?

Most events only ever photograph one face, so single sided is the usual choice. Double sided is worth it where people approach a standing frame from both directions.

Will it survive an outdoor event?

Corrugated plastic is weatherproof and will handle a day outdoors comfortably. It is the wind rather than the rain that ends most of them, so weight or hold a large standing frame.

Can I order just one?
