What dye sublimation actually is
The ink is turned to gas and bonded into the polyester fibre rather than sitting on the surface. Three things follow from that, and they are the reason fabric is chosen over vinyl:
- No glare. Vinyl reflects light; fabric does not. This is why every media wall behind a press photographer is fabric.
- It folds. Roll a vinyl banner and it creases permanently. Fabric packs into a bag and shakes out.
- The colour does not crack or peel, because there is no ink layer to crack.
