Media Walls: The Complete Guide to Stretch Fabric Backdrops

A media wall is the fastest way to make a stand, stage or event look established and professional — and to get your brand into every photo people take. At a trade show it pulls visitors toward your stand; at a launch or press event it turns every selfie and media shot into free brand exposure. For most businesses it’s the single highest-impact display you can own.

In short, a media wall (also called a step-and-repeat backdrop, press wall or event backdrop) is a large stretch-fabric display: a lightweight aluminium frame with a custom-printed fabric “skin” pulled over it to create a seamless, wrinkle-free branded wall.

At Vivid Ads we print stretch fabric media walls in Australia, usually within 24 hours, for businesses running exhibitions, conferences, product launches, sporting events and red-carpet nights right across the country. This guide covers everything you need to choose the right size and order with confidence. If you’d rather browse first, see our stretch fabric media walls.

What is a media wall used for?

Media walls do one job brilliantly: they put your brand behind people. The most common uses we print for are:

  • Trade shows and expos — a full-height backdrop that makes even a bare booth look like an established brand and draws visitors in from the aisle.
  • Press walls and red-carpet events — the classic step-and-repeat logo wall that gets your branding into every media and social photo.
  • Product launches and conferences — a professional stage or photo backdrop for speakers, awards and announcements.
  • Sporting clubs and presentations — interview and sponsor backdrops.
  • Offices, studios and webinars — a permanent branded background for filming, reception areas and video calls.

Media wall sizes

Our stretch fabric media walls all stand 2300 mm tall (about head-height-plus, so people fit comfortably in front) and come in five widths. As a rule of thumb: narrower walls suit a single backdrop or photo corner, wider walls suit a full booth or a main stage.

Size (W × H) Best for
1500 × 2300 mm Solo photo backdrop, small booth, office/studio
1980 × 2300 mm Standard single-bay exhibition stand
2980 × 2300 mm Larger stand, group photo / press wall
3980 × 2300 mm Wide booth or stage backdrop
5980 × 2300 mm Main stage, large step-and-repeat, hero wall

How a media wall works (setup in under 5 minutes)

This is the part customers love. The frame is a lightweight tubular aluminium design with snap-lock joints — it clicks together by hand, no tools required, in under five minutes. The printed fabric is made “pillowcase” style: it slips over the assembled frame and zips closed along the bottom, pulling the graphic drum-tight so there’s no sagging, seams or creasing. At the end of the event it comes apart just as fast and packs into the included carry case.

Vivid Ads tip: one person can set up a media wall, but a 4–6 m wall is much easier with two — one to hold the frame square while the other zips the fabric. Allow 5–10 minutes on site and you’ll never be caught rushing before doors open.

Single-sided vs double-sided

Single-sided media walls are printed on the front with a plain white back — the right choice when the wall sits against a booth wall or backdrop where the rear is never seen. Double-sided (Double Impact) prints both faces, so you can show different products or messages front and back — ideal for free-standing walls in the middle of a space, or to advertise to two directions of foot traffic at once.

Materials and print quality

We print on a premium 250 gsm stretch fabric using dye sublimation, where the ink is bonded into the fibres rather than sitting on top. That gives sharp, full-colour HD graphics with rich blacks, and a finish that’s wrinkle-resistant and won’t crack or peel. The aluminium frame carries a 12-month hardware warranty, and every order includes a carry case. Like all our display range, media walls are made in Australia and typically printed within 24 hours.

Build a complete exhibition stand

A media wall is the anchor of a great stand, but it works hardest as part of a set. The booths that pull the most visitors usually pair the backdrop with a few supporting pieces:

Ordering them together keeps your branding consistent and your artwork in one place. Browse the full exhibition display range, and our trade show printing checklist is worth a read while you plan.

Reuse it: keep the frame, swap the graphic

One of the most cost-effective things to know about media walls is that the frame is built to last for years of travel — when your campaign or branding changes, you don’t buy a whole new wall. You simply order a fresh fabric skin and reuse the same frame. See our replacement media wall graphics to refresh the look for a new season or event at a fraction of the cost.

Artwork tips for a sharp media wall

  • Design to the exact size. Each width has its own template — build your artwork to the correct dimensions so logos and faces don’t stretch.
  • For step-and-repeat, space logos evenly and keep them clear of the very edges and the zip line along the bottom.
  • Mind the photo zone. People stand in front of the lower-centre of the wall — keep key logos in the upper two-thirds so they’re always visible above heads in photos.
  • Supply high-resolution or vector files. The wall is printed large; low-res logos will look soft up close.

Our print-ready file guide covers setup, or our design team can build the artwork for you.

Ordering is simple: choose your size, single- or double-sided, and upload your artwork or request design help; approve your proof, and we print — usually within 24 hours. Frequently asked questions

What is a media wall?

A media wall is a large stretch-fabric backdrop on a lightweight aluminium frame, custom-printed with your branding. It’s also called a step-and-repeat wall, press wall or event backdrop, and is used at exhibitions, launches, press events and for photos.

What sizes do media walls come in?

Ours are 2300 mm tall and come in widths of 1500, 1980, 2980, 3980 and 5980 mm. Narrower walls suit a photo backdrop or small booth; wider walls suit a full stand or main stage.

How long does a media wall take to set up?

Under five minutes. The tubular frame snaps together by hand with no tools, and the fabric slips over and zips closed along the bottom for a tight, seamless finish.

Single-sided or double-sided?

Single-sided has a printed front and a white back — best against a wall. Double-sided (Double Impact) prints both faces, ideal for free-standing walls or advertising in two directions.

Can I reuse the frame and just replace the graphic?

Yes. The frame is reusable for years; when your branding changes you can order replacement graphics only and keep the same frame.

How fast can I get a media wall in Australia?

We’re Australian-made and typically print within 24 hours, then ship nationwide. Check current turnaround and delivery at checkout.
