Feather Flags vs Teardrop Flags: Which Should You Buy? (2026)

Choose a feather flag if you want maximum height and a tall, narrow space for vertical text, and a teardrop flag if you want a rounded shape that suits a logo or a short word. At Vivid Ads both start at $99 inc GST for a small, single-sided flag with poles, carry bag and a free ground spike (as at 2 Nov 2026); feather flags come in 2500, 3500 and 4800 mm heights and teardrop flags in 2100, 3000 and 4200 mm.

How the two shapes differ
Feather flags
Feather flags are taller and narrower, with a straight vertical edge. That makes them good for vertical text such as OPEN, SALE or a short brand name, and for height beside a road, where the 4.8 m Large size can be seen over parked cars. Because the printable area is long and thin, keep words short and letters large.
Teardrop flags
Teardrop flags have a rounded top and a wider body. The curved shape keeps the print taut and readable in light wind, which suits a logo, an icon or one short word. They read well at shopfronts, open homes, car yards, sporting events and expos. Because the flag curves on its pole, use the template for your size and keep text inside the safe area.
Which one should you choose?
- Roadside or car park, maximum visibility: a Medium or Large feather flag.
- Logo-led branding at a shopfront or event: a teardrop flag.
- Indoors at an expo: either works in the Small size on a cross base. Check the venue's height limits first.
- A set for a sports club or car yard: many buyers mix both, with tall feather flags at the entrance and teardrops along the frontage.
Single-sided or double-sided?
A single-sided flag is printed on one side. The design shows through on the back, but any text reads as a mirror image. A double-sided flag uses two separately printed panels with a blockout layer between them, so both sides read correctly and can carry different artwork. If people will approach from both directions, double-sided is worth the extra.
Which base do you need?
- Ground spike (included free): grass and soft ground.
- Premium Cross Base with Water Bag: paving, concrete and indoors.
- Heavy Duty Concrete Base (10kg): hard surfaces where you want more weight.
- Heavy Duty Metal Plate (5kg): listed on both product pages as out of stock, with an expected date of 10 Dec 2026.
Choosing another base replaces the free ground spike rather than adding to it.
Materials, care and lifespan
Both flag types are dye-sublimation printed and use aluminium and fibreglass poles with double steel sleeves at the base. Flags are machine washable; avoid harsh detergents. Our product pages state that outdoors, the printed fabric typically lasts 9 to 12 months for feather flags and 6 to 12 months for teardrop flags before noticeable fading, depending on weather, and indoors much longer. Graphics-only replacement flags are available, so you can keep your poles and base.
Production and delivery
The production time on both flag pages reads: "24hrs if the artwork is approved by 3pm Melbourne time on a working day." Larger orders take longer to be ready to dispatch, counted in working days after proof approval: 1 to 15 items in 1 working day, 16 to 40 in 2, 41 to 100 in 3 and 101 to 200 in 4. Over 200, our production team confirms the date. Delivery time is added after dispatch. Flags are printed at our factory in Derrimut VIC, with free pickup available.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a feather flag and a teardrop flag?
A feather flag is taller and narrower with a straight vertical edge, so it suits vertical text and roadside height. A teardrop flag has a rounded top and a wider body, so it suits a logo or a short word. Both come with poles, a carry bag and a free ground spike.
How much do feather flags and teardrop flags cost?
As at 2 Nov 2026, at Vivid Ads a single-sided flag with ground spike costs $99, $109 or $118.90 inc GST for a Small, Medium or Large feather flag, and $99, $109 or $139 inc GST for a Small, Medium or Large teardrop flag.
Which is better for roadside advertising?
A feather flag is usually the better choice beside a road because it offers more height. The Large feather flag is 4800 mm tall, compared with 4200 mm for the Large teardrop flag.
Can I use feather or teardrop flags on concrete?
Yes, but not with the ground spike. On concrete, paving or indoors, choose the Premium Cross Base with Water Bag or the Heavy Duty Concrete Base (10kg). Choosing another base replaces the free ground spike.
Should I buy a single-sided or double-sided flag?
Choose double-sided if people will approach from both directions, because text on a single-sided flag reads as a mirror image from the back. A double-sided flag has two printed panels with a blockout layer between them.
