We print the Australian National Flag and every state and territory flag to order at our Melbourne factory, usually within 24 hours. Because each one is printed rather than pulled off a shelf, you are not stuck with a single stock size — if your pole, bracket or fitting needs a particular dimension, we make it to that dimension.

Most orders here are sets: a school flying the national and state flag together, a council hall, a sporting club, an RSL. Tell us what you need and we will price the set.

Sizes, and which ones are correct

The Australian National Flag and all state and territory flags are designed at a 1:2 ratio — exactly twice as wide as they are tall. Three sizes in our range hold that ratio. The other two are excellent for corporate and custom flags, but they will stretch a national design out of proportion, so we do not recommend them for these.

Need a size that isn't listed? That is the whole point of printing to order. Send us the measurements and we will print to them — including the odd sizes that older poles and heritage brackets need.

How they are made

• 135gsm Trilobal flag fabric, printed full colour by dye sublimation so the colour is in the weave rather than sitting on top of it
• Heavy-duty nylon white header with hemmed edges and sister clips, ready to attach to a rope halyard
• Reinforced stitching for outdoor and coastal conditions
• Single-sided print, which bleeds through to a mirror image on the reverse

That last point is worth reading twice if the flag will be flown where both sides are visible — on a free-standing pole the reverse reads as a mirror image. For wall brackets, indoor displays, stage backdrops and most event use it makes no practical difference. If you need a true reverse, ask us and we will quote a double-sided build.

Flying the Australian flag with a state flag

The Australian National Flag always takes the position of honour. On a row of poles that means it goes on the far left as seen by someone facing the flags, with the state or territory flag next in order, and it should never fly lower than another flag on the same set of poles. If you are ordering a set for a school or council building and are not sure of the arrangement, tell us how many poles you have and we will lay it out with you.

Common questions

What size Australian flag do I need for my flagpole?

The usual rule is that the flag's length should be roughly a quarter to a third of the pole's height. A 3-metre pole suits a 900 x 450mm flag, a 4–5 metre pole suits 1370 x 685mm, and a 6-metre pole — the most common residential and school size — suits 1800 x 900mm.

Can I order a size that isn't listed?

Yes. Every flag is printed to order rather than pulled from stock, so if your pole, bracket or fitting needs a particular dimension, tell us the measurements and we will print to them. This is the main reason customers come to us rather than a stock flag retailer.

Are the flags printed or sewn?

Printed. We use full-colour dye sublimation on 135gsm Trilobal flag fabric with a heavy-duty nylon white header, hemmed edges and sister clips. The print is single-sided and bleeds through to a mirror image on the reverse.

How quickly can you make them?

Standard production is 24 hours from artwork approval at our Derrimut facility in Melbourne, then delivery Australia-wide. Bulk and set orders for schools, councils and clubs are quoted individually.
